
Giannis Chalaris is a Ph.D. researcher at the University of Strathclyde, dedicated to shaping a sustainable future for the maritime industry through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of alternative fuels. His journey combines academic excellence, industry experience, and international recognition, from chairing SNAME’s M-50 Alternative Fuels Panel to receiving multiple scholarships for his contributions to shipping decarbonization. Regularly invited to international conferences, he shares insights on alternative fuels, sustainable technologies, and the potential application of nuclear power in shipping. With a strong belief in innovation and collaboration, Ioannis works to bridge science and practice, driving forward the technologies and policies that will define
tomorrow’s energy systems.
As Co-founder and National Representative of the Hellenic Young Generation in Nuclear (Hellenic YGN), Ioannis brings the same passion and leadership to the nuclear field. He envisions a vibrant community where young professionals and researchers can exchange ideas, inspire one another, and help Greece take an active role in the global clean energy transition. His mission is not only to advance sustainable solutions but also to empower the next generation to believe that they can lead change, turning vision into action for a safer, cleaner, and more resilient world.
